The U.S. Geological Survey says the 4.2 magnitude quake hit around 2:17 p.m., about 13 miles west of Perry, Oklahoma.

Here at Eyewitness News, excitement began almost immediately as the tremor struck. Those who live in Kansas took social media to tell us all about it.

“Well look at there – @KWCH12 just confirmed what I thought. Only 3 months in Ks. and I’ve gotten flooding-a tornado-and now an earthquake,” Tweeted KWCH Reporter Akeam Ashford.

“lol. welcome to Kansas! :-)” a follower responded.

Not only could the earthquake be felt in Kansas, people in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and even Kansas City, Missouri said they felt it.

The USGS keeps track of people who feel earthquakes to help determine their how strong they are.
