One day I was walking, lonely and hurting, only able to cry.
Thinking about my life, I wanted to die.
I felt lower than the dirt I stared out on the ground.
Inside me a voice said, “Look up and see.”
There it was, looking lonelier than me.
The bench on the hill by the tree.
As I looked at this little bench, all I could see, was it was bruised and battered like me.
Alone and out of place, sat the bench on the hill by the tree.
The Lord met me there. Telling me He would break the chains of my loneliness, my hurts and my pains.
He told me of His love and He would never leave me, as we sat together on the bench on the hill by the tree.
With mercy and love, compassion and care, the Lord, that day took my loneliness, broken heart and despair.
He said He would replace it, with unspeakable joy and peace.
All I had to do was believe.
He told me He knew I would be here, on the bench on the hill by the tree.
Long ago He gave His life for me, on a tree on a hill called Calvary.
