The United States Geological Survey (USGS), reported that the earthquake hit a depth of 25.8km (16 miles) today.  According to the USGS, the earthquake struck at 9.21pm local time (1.21pm GMT). 

There have been no reports of casualties or damage to buildings as of yet.

According to testimonies on Earthquake-report, there have been reports of people “screaming” in the province of Bukidnon on the island. 

Moreover, the earthquake hit approximately 92km (56 miles) from the city of Davao. 

Another person also wrote: “About 20 secs shaking.

“We were really scared that I ran out from my bedroom.”

Mindanao is the second-largest of the Philippine Islands and was hit by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake last month. 

The devastating earthquake was the second to hit in just two days and killed five people.

There was also reports of damage to several hundred homes in the southern part of Mindanao. 

During the earthquake, at least 10 people were thought to be trapped inside Eva’s Hotel in  Kidapawan, according to the New York Times. 

The USGS said the quake was magnitude 6.5 and hit around 25 miles southwest of Davao City in Kisante.

Just two days previous to the quake, a sperate earthquake caused a large amount of destruction in the same region. 

Tuesday’s quake, which was a whopping magnitude 6.6, killed eight people and wiped out schools and other buildings.

Around 2,700 houses and buildings including hospitals have been destroyed, according to the Office of Civil Defence.

The Philippines is situated on the ‘Ring of Fire’, where most of the world’s earthquake occurs. 

Therefore, the country is at constant threat of seismic activity and despite being hit multiples earthquakes over the last few weeks a magnitude 6.3 also hit the country on October 16. 

Also situated in the region, Indonesia was struck by a colossal 7.4 magnitude earthquake last week. 

The quake occurred in the Molucca Sea and also triggered a tsunami alert in the region. 

The earthquake hit the region at 12.17am (4.17pm BST) and was measured at 62km (38 miles) deep.

The earthquake hit 145km from Bitung City, which has an estimated population of around 190,000.
